bleeding gum

bleeding gum

Ok so for starters I'm 16 weeks pregnant, so I know that has a part in why my gums are bleeding, but when I brush my teeth they bleed pretty bad, I also have a strong vibrating tooth brush. But the other day my boyfriend took me out to eat at fudruckers and we got a milkshake, it was pretty thick. I went to suck it out of the straw and could nearly get anything so I stopped and there was blood in the straw.. is this normal for pregnancy or should I go to the dentist and get it looked at?  May I add I brush my teeth daily and use mouth wash a good bit so I have good dental highgene. My gums also feel sore and tender during the day. What's going on?

Hi,
Pregnancy can give the teeth and gums problems.  You really need to get to your dentist ASAP.  Bleeding gums is the sign of gingivitis and it can flare up during pregnancy.  It really needs to be evaluated as soon as possible.

In the meantime, be sure to add daily flossing to your twice a day brushing.  Plaque between the teeth where a toothbrush just doesn't reach is the biggest offender of gingivitis.

Good luck.  Get the appt and floss well daily.

Best to you,
Gellia
