bleeding gums

Hi there-

first of all, thank you for running this site. you are doing a great service.

about two weeks ago, i noticed a white bump in my mouth on the inside of my gum, along with my gums starting to bleed much easier than they had been. In fact, even when i bit down on a banana, they bled once, although i admit that this has happened before, but not recently). Well, i went to the dentist, and she said that the bump looked like a bony tori and that my gums were looking better than they had in the past.

However, beginning 2 days ago, my gums started getting sore again and i can make my lower front gums bleed sometimes just by pushing forward with my tongue! That has me really scared. the gums don't always bleed when i do this, but they are bleeding enough to have me worried, especially since my dentist looked at them and said they looked ok just one week ago.

I have been brushing with a soft brush, flossing twice daily, using mouthwash, and just had a professional cleaning approx 1 month ago.

would the emergence of a tori cause the gums near it to bleed at first?

Also, i have been under ALOT of stress lately and havent been handling it too well. Could this be the cause of my bleeding gums?

What recommendations would you make? Should i go back to my dentist and have her re-examine me?

thanks for you time

Firstly, I do believe that stress can be a contributing factor to you having a gingivitis which seems to be what you have. I do feel that bleeding that you are experiencing is indicative of a problem. I can not diagnosis it from this forum because obviously I can not examine you. But if you were bleeding from any place in your body you would be getting an appointment with an MD asap. If your gums bleed it is something that has to be looked into. The bleeding is more than likely not coming from the tori.

I called my dentist today and her first thought was that it was a mild form of ANUG. She told me to keep stress down as much as possible and maintain vigilant dental cleaning, and if things dont improve in a week, i should give her a call.

Gingivitis and bleeding gums are caused by a number of different issues. One of those in bacteria in the mouth. There is a natural toothpaste that has copper as the active ingredient that has worked well for me http://www.cuprident.com
