It sounds like you have a serious case of gingivitis. This is caused by poor oral hygiene, which allows food to become trapped between the teeth and gums turning into a hard substance called plaque, and pushes the gums away from the teeth. This is why they are bleeding. Gingivitis can lead to other problems because the bacteria can enter the bloodstream. Get to a dentist for a good cleaning, brush thoroughly a minimum of 2 x a day, floss every night, and use a good mouthwash like ACT Restoring. Until you get into the dentist rinse your mouth 3-4 times a day with hydrogen peroxide (don't swallow).
A trip to the dentist for a thorough cleaning is in order before you go from simple gingivitis to a more serious periodontal disease. It may be all you need to solve the problem.
In the meantime, do what mammo has suggested. Brush gently so as not to hurt the gum that has become detached. The idea is to brush your tTEETH, not scrub your gums like a pit bull. If you brush hard you can only make the gum detachment worse. Be gentle. Hold your toothbrush like you would a pen or pencil and start with the teeth on the lower bottom. Most people leave these to last and they get the most plaque accumulation. It is better to brush gently and longer than too hard.
Your dentist is the only one that can get rid of the plaque that has formed at the tooth base.
Please don't wait. You'll be SO happy you went.
Best to you and good luck. Let us know how you do.
