bone graft

bone graft

Hi. I just had a soft-tissue impaction in the upper-right removed today. I also need the lower-left wisdom tooth removed as well. I was told by my dentist that this one has a partial-bony impaction and that he'd like to do a bone graft with it. He didn't explain why very well so I did my own research. Upon conducting this research I told my doctor that I didn't want the bone graft...he said he isn't comfortable performing the procedure w/o doing the graft, and that he'd be referring me to an oral surgeon to see if they would do it.

The bone graft seems a bit extreme, considering I don't have a full-bony impaction. What do you think?

Also, I'm age 23, healthy and have never had any dental problems (except for one chipped tooth a few months back, as a result of getting hit in the mouth).

Placement of bone graft material may facilitate wound healing and hemostasis. However, it's not mandatory. Consultation with an oral surgeon is advised.
