can pain injection med affect heart rate?

by wednesday913, Feb 11, 2008 12:36PM
Hi,

I have recently been having a problem with sinus tachycardia (elevated heart rate) and I am on medication for it. (cartia xt). My heart rate still tends to be on the high side.

I have a wisdom tooth which has cavities in it, and it is hurting me so I am going to my dentist in two days. I am afraid the pain medication the use will raise my heart rate. Should I be worried about this?

I will be sure to tell the dentist of the sinus tachycardia/meds, but would like to know in advance if there is anything I should worry about.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I have Wolff Parkinsons White Syndrome and you need to have your Dr and Cardiologist clear you for the tooth extractions because extractions cause Heart Arrythimias.
I had to wait for my Cardiologist to clear me and send a written information before anywork gets doen on my mouth. I also found out from my Primary Dr and Cardiologist that that Lidocaine and Septhacaine people with heart conditions can't take for because it can cause a heart attack and being I do not numb I have to be put under for the tooth extractions. Make sure you tell your dentist about your heart condition and he will tell you to get a medical clearance first because he will not touch you.

The medicine that they use to numb you for the dental work often contains epinephrine....which does temporarily increase your heart rate....I would definately call ahead.
