can't find a crown that doesn't hurt

I've had 4 different crowns put on a back upper molar that continue to hurt. I'm ready to have the tooth pulled. Are there some teeth that just cannot be fitted with a crown? (or is this just an incompetant dentist?)

does the tooth have a root canal? it might need one. you havent described when it hurts. sometimes there are problems if the tooth is cracked or there is a root fracture which can make your tooth hurt with pressure. the crown usually can help the cracked tooth. root fractures are unrepairable.
