concerns about my root canal

by thesingerchick, Aug 20, 2005 12:00AM
I had a root canal done in my last lower right molar, after expeiencing a very painful tooth ache. I had been having jaw pain for some time before this, but didn't know what it was. The dentist immediately tried to remove nerve material. This did not work as I could feel everything. He sent me home with a prescription for toradol and antibiotics. I was in excrutiaiating pain as soon as I stood up, and this did not calm down for some time. (Is it common to start such a procedure on an infected tooth?..owch!)The dentist told me that I had unusual roots, as they curve towards the back of my mouth. Since this appt. I have now been back 4 times. Most of my apts have been painfiul experiences. My dentist says I am very difficult to freeze..I had so much freezing one day that my eyelid drooped. That was scary. Now the dentist says he cannot get past a calcified area near the very end of the tooth, although he is willing to keep trying. He has broke a piece of his file in my tooth (he didn't tell me this until the last apt, and now I am kind of worried?!)I have also broken a piece of the surface area of my tooth, although the dentist said this was okay..? Now the dentist said he has showed my xrays to a rootcanal specialist and he says there is no point in putting a lot of money into the tooth. My dentist said that I should just have him pull it. I am still having jaw pain and the tooth is sensitive to touch. What should I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Lisa

My suggestion is that before you get the tooth extracted see an endodontist yourself for a second opinion. With todays technologies a separated instrument can often be removed. The tooth maybe salvagable.
