continued numbness after wisdom tooth extraction

Approximately 4 months ago I had my bottom right wisdom tooth    removed.  I still cannot feel thr right side of my tongue.  It has a tingling sensation like after your leg falls asleep.  It's quite irritating but its also scary because It has been so long.  Could I have nerve damage?  Could it be because the dentist left some root in?  My dentist was terrible...is this something I can see my regular doctor about?

Early pharmacologic intervention is probably helpful for traumatic trigeminal neuropathy, which is the condition you are suffering. Seeing an orofacial pain specialist or neurologist is advised.
