Hi,
This could be due to several things. It could be because the gums are sore after the cleaning, there could be some pockets or swollen gums around it. This is not so bad and can be evaluated easily. Then it could be the fact that the root canal is failing or there is an extra canal that was not cleaned, this could mean redoing the root canal. It could also be that you have had a crack on this tooth to begin with and now for some reason the crack has gone all the way through the tooth and has gotten to the bone. In this case, the tooth might need to be removed and a bridge, implant or partial denture would be needed if you do not want to go tooth less and not want to deal with the domino effect of problems that arise from that. Then there could be the possibility of you clenching or grinding on this tooth for one reason or another, it could be due to stress, it could be that the tooth was sore after the cleaning, etc, which caused you to start clenching on this tooth and or your bite has been off and it is just now causing the pain. In which case a bite evaluation needs to be done. Make sure you see a dentist who is trained properly in each of these areas and a thorough examination is done and all these avenues are visited and evaluated before treatment.
