crown pain..weird!

by bucky999, May 30, 2008 01:44PM
I have had crowns before and I always need bite adjustments or the teeth become sensitive. I had one root canal as well. I have a tooth on the lower left, crowed a year or more ago. If I bite down on something hard it will hurt. No temperature senitivity or anything. I just had a new crown on the lower right. I have the temp crown on and was having the same issue....chomp on something hard and it hurts. Again, no temp sensitivity. The dentist adjusted the temp crown once and it got a little better but it still felt 'wrong' when I chewed so I went back and he did an xray (saw nothing wrong) and another adjustment. My bite still may not be perfect but it feels almost 100% normal now chewing,..no clanging teeth that I can tell. I did not chew on the right side for a few days. Each morning, right out of bed I puch down on the tooth. The pain lessened each day but never fully has gone away...of course even when chewing on the other side, I guess if the bite is off it could still be affecting the tooth. I can almost eat normally but if I eat peanuts or something it is sensitve. I have had the temp on for 3 weeks and am scheduled to get the permanant one on next week. How do I know if I need a root canal or if the tooth will eventually calm dowm. He sees nothing on the XRay. Bite adjustements have worked but the tooth has not calmed down 100%. To be honest its calmer than the one on the other side I had done a year ago! Still I'd hate to get the permanant crown on and then need a root canal....I can't afford to pay to have the crown ripped off and repalced! Is this normal? Should I go ahead with the permamant one.....?

If there is no cold sensitivity and electric pulp test tested vital, root canal treatment is contraindicated. If provisional crown does'nt yield 100% comfort, outcome of final crown is questionable. More meticulous occlusal adjustment is advised.
