crowns hurt when I lay down

crowns hurt when I lay down

Within the last week, a crown on the upper left of my mouth has caused severe pain when I am laying down.  Any idea what could be causing this?  There is no apparent infection. The crown is extremely sensitive, especially to cold, but that has been true ever since it was put on three years ago.

I am having the same problem.  I've had the crowns (2 side by side) for about 2 or 3 weeks with no problems.  Yesterday morning I woke up with a sore jaw and unable to bite on the crowns.  Last night it kept me up until I propped my upper body up and the throbbing finally stopped.  But, this morning my jaw is sore and still can't bite on the crown.  Why is this happending.  Could I be grinding my teeth?

There shouldn't be such severe pain under a crown.  Did you have a root canal?  If not, one is likely needed, if yes, then it needs to be retreated.  The fact that it is still so sensitive to cold three years later makes me think that there is a root problem that is worsening.  You need to get that checked and x-rayed.  Ideally, a crowned tooth should have no "feeling" whatsoever.

Tina73, grinding can cause crown pain, yes, and could indeed be irritating the work you had done only a few weeks ago.  Again, I have to wonder if you had a root canal or not.  Crowned teeth often need root canals due to the prep work on the tooth which can damage an otherwise healthy root.
