crowns

by l0oneyl0ni, Jun 08, 2009 07:59PM
I had a bridge put in the top along with a few crowns after root canals were done. I also had my lower teeth crowned and I told the dentist they didn't fit even though they INSISTED they were the right size (my bottom teeth keep hitting my top!) anyway could the bottom ones have MOVED the top ones because recently my top ones have been aching horribly. I eat anything and it seems like my gums and teeth hurt and I have no idea why!

This discussion is related to Root canal & crown still hurts 6 mos. later.

read my journal and what happen to me when I told a dentist there was something wrong with my crowns.  If they feel too big and bulky and hurt when you eat, there is something definitely wrong.   See a specialist asap.  I wouldn't let it go too long or you will end up like I did from substandard work.

My gums are still hurting from the trauma it caused me.  It is called hyper occlusion.

Yes it can move your teeth, because your teeth try to get out of the way of the trauma the hyper occlusion is causing.   Scottma a dentist on this forum told me to see a Prosthdontist (specialist) and this is what I did.  He found the problem.

A little advice.   When you go to the Prosthodontist, try not to elaborate too much on
your other dentist's substandard work.  If you go to someone in your area they will just back each other up.    I went to someone 6 counties away.

The first type of dentist I went to see for my pain was an endodontist (they do root canals), I wanted to see if he knew why my gums were hurting and if a root canal was needed. He stated to me he could not say anything about the crowns. He was 2 or 3 streets over from the original dentist who did the substandard work.

I never asked him to say anything about the crowns, all I wanted to know is why my gums were hurting and sore and causing me pain. I was going to show him a picture of where my teeth and crowns were hurting, but he stated he could not say anything about the crowns.

I think he knew what the problem was with the crowns, but he stated to me he could not say anything about them, this is when I went to another dentist further away.  I didn't deny a root canal was not needed, but I knew something else just did not feel right with these crowns.

The original general dentist who performed the work could not find out why I was in pain and told me I did not need a root canal and stated he did not know why my other teeth were pushing up. For 7 months he told me nothing was wrong and could not find my problem he caused.

Did you have root canals done on these teeth?   If you haven't and didn't need them at the time you got your crowns, you may end up with them if you don't get to a specialist about your too high of crowns moving your other teeth if they need to be adjusted.

I ended up with two root canals.   The pounding of the teeth irritate the tissue and cause bruising to the gums and underneath the tissue of them.

It is depressing all of the pain and suffering I have been through at the hands of one dentist who denies he did anything wrong and is still trying to collect 309.00 from me for his inferior work he performed.  I complained to him for 3 months after wards and he stated there was nothing wrong.

I know my teeth have become mobile and moved because they are still not aligned right.

After the prosthodontist adjusted them, they felt better, but have not returned to their normal resting place.    Someone told me this may take a while for the teeth to move back to where they once were, they state it takes time but eventually they will return to normal if you get what is causing or caused the trauma to the teeth fixed.

I have 3 crowns that had to be replaced because of the original dentist who left them in hyper occlusion.   My jaws hurt also and I could not figure out why until the specialist adjusted them down to the right size; my jaw and my ear quit hurting some what, but not completely.   My one jaw is still a little sore and I have ringing in my one ear, which I am hoping will go away eventually.

Let me know how your issue turns out.

PS  I had to get an attorney regarding my situation.   Even though you may have a
good relationship with a dentist, negligence is negligence.  I ended up paying 3066.60
for new crowns that had to be replaced due to his negligence and 900.00 for root canals, the insurance paid the other half 1000.00  for the root canals.

Not to mention I had to have another crown he put on almost 4 years ago ajusted down to the metal and replaced also because it was in hyper occlusion.

Statute of limitations in Ohio is 1 year.  I don't know what Ma. is. I think your's may be 3 years  not sure.  Also there is a discovery rule involved.  Good Luck.

Oh you can start with your local dental society (county dental society) about your situation and also write the State Dental Board in your state, but it didn't help me get my money back or they never tell you what their results are.
