darkened and broken top front tooth

by 853211, Sep 22, 2007 10:17PM
Is there something I can do other than a veneer/crown to fix the appearance of the top front tooth that is broken off (half) and has an old root canal (> 18 years)?

The root canal has led the broken tooth to darken significantly relative to the surrounding teeth.  The filling materials they tried for restoring the tooth shape have darkened within a year of 'installation' and look pretty horrible.

If possible I would like to avoid veneers/crowns.

If the tooth has already had a veneer, your best option would be another veneer.  You could see if it's possible to build the tooth back up with a filling, however that will eventually stain also.  The best option for a root canaled tooth is a crown.
