decay under gold crown

decay under gold crown

I have a 3/4 gold crown right molar. At least 15 yrs old. It fell out and dentist put it back on, hopefully to last
3 months for insurance reasons before replacing it. Even when it fell out I had no pain or sensitivity at all,
and still do not with it put back on. Dentist said I have some decay under there, and we can wait if stays
a symptomatic 3-4 mos. Question- if its fitting perfectly, and no symptoms, can't I just leave it?
I am 52 in great health, and don't want to blow a pile of money , when I feel like all my teeth are going to
begin to need help just due to the age of my dental work.
thank you.
