dental extractions

i just had 12 teeth extracted last week, is there any quick ways to heal the gums, and\or how long will it take? thank you.

Dentist to perform 2 extractions and told me he would also need to do root canals on same teeth.
Why is it necessary to perform root canals if he is taking the 2 teeth out?

Is it common for dentist to perform root canal when he is going to extract a tooth?  My dentist wants to extract 2 teeth adjacent to a "root canal" tooth.  He said he also wants to do root canals on both teeth to be extracted and then, replace with bridge.  I do have abscess in the area.
