dental health

My gums are red and itchy for the past 2 weeks now. When ever I eat food that is a little bit mild the gums burn and itches terribly. Is this a sign of gingervitus? I got something over the counter to gurgle with and the itching stops but the sensitivity does not stop. What seems to be the the problem? Should I go and see  dentist or should I go see a GP?

Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I think it is due to the new sensitivity tooth paste that I am using. But in the mean time the gums are no more red and the itching has also stoped.  It is just the burning of the gums if I eat something hot like chilies etc. I have scheduled  an apoint ment with the dentist.

Thank you

Hi

If it has been over a year since you have seen a dentist, I would schedule a checkup. Sometimes people can have reactions to toothpastes as well. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums resulting from improper oral hygiene. With that you see redness and bleeding when brushing and flossing.

Some people report "itching" of the gingiva due to sinus related problems. Not saying thus is your problem, but at least have a dentist check you and ensure your mouth is in a healthy state. From there your dentist can recommend you follow up with your PCP.

I am also including a link of this very problem that can explain possible culprits for your problem.
