is dental plaque & heart plaque the same?

by Jerome Bogin, D.D.S. , Jul 28, 2005 12:00AM
Dental plaque is made up of a mixture(for a better word) of the oral bacteria. The consistency of which is a sticky film that occurs every 24 hours. It becomes hard (tartar) when it reacts with the saliva. This is the calculus that the dentist has to remove. Heart plaque is a solid material that is composed of a lipoprotein. There is no correlation between the two.
