i have swollen gums and a sore jaw line

Hi,
It sounds as though it's the beginning of an abscess and/or gingivitis.

I urge you to make an appt with your dentist ASAP.  Infections need treatment and at home care won't help.
You can rinse with warm salt water (1/4 tsp in 8 oz) until you can get to see the dentist but I would tell him you are swollen and in pain so that you may be seen ASAP.
