It is possible to develop an allergy to anything at anytime.  But a metallic taste isn't usually indicative of an allergic reaction.  Has there been any changes in medication or diet?  Sometimes medication can leave an unusual taste in the mouth.  Also, when was your last checkup?  You may want to let your dentist know and have your denture checked out since it has been eight years.
