dry socket pain! please help!

someone please help me? i had 4 wisdom teeth extracted and 2 days after surgery i developed dry socket. i do smoke and did and have been since surgery. although leaving my gauze n too long is what caused my dry socket because i seen the blood clot on the gauze when i pulled it out? the oral surgen packed it with a med dressing and it was on a fri so i had to wait till monday to have it packed again because it was killing me and the packings do help but do not stop the pain? the day after i had it packed i awoke to go to work and my eye was swollen on the right where my dry socket is. its the one on the right bottom wisdom tooth where i have dry socket. ive been having severe pain towards the back of my head behind my ear and up to my eye? ive been taking my pain meds with over the counter pain relievers and all it does is dull the pain but does not stop it? the dressings work but jus for awhile? i had a fresh dressing put in today and the oral surgen wants to see me back in 2 days? but the pain is severe and im almost out of pain meds and i cant even imagine the pain without them! what should i tell my oral surgen to help stop my pain? nothing seems to work? someone please help me and any info would be greatly appriciated! thx again in advance

Good, I am glad it seems to be getting better for you!  I remember when I had mine out it was very painful (the dry sockets)  I was a smoker too but I didn't smoke afterward b/c my mom came to help me out and she didn't know that I smoked!  You just have to keep a close eye on any possible infection or abcess in your mouth b/c it can spread to your brain! (I don't mean to scare you but it is scary!)  Last year I had an abcess in my sinus caused by an infected tooth and ended up having to have sinus surgery b/c of it so I know the pain and problems that are caused by it!  Just keep a close eye on it and let your dentist know if you have anymore problems.  I hope you have a merry christmas and I hope you aren't in pain much longer...it never hurts to ask for a refil of meds to get you through the holidays just in case!

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I had dry sockets and ulcers on 2 of them as well.  I had to go back for 3 weeks for him to pack it every couple of days.  I would let the dentist know that your eye is swollen and that could possibly be an infection that is spreading.  I would call the office and let them know how much pain you are in and the fact that your eye is swollen and request more meds.  It took me forever to heal and it is very painful but just b/c your on pain meds does not mean that it will take all the pain away.  The best thing to do is if possible have him refil your meds and continue taking motrin or something for the swelling but definitly let them know about your eye.  Keep us updated and good luck!
