effective treatment and drugs administered

I was referred to a periodontist because of 2 pockets of infection over my right canine tooth. Two Xrays did not show anything that would indicate cause, so possibilities were
theorized. The pockets were only on the front side of the tooth.I was presented with surgery as the only option and so sought a second opinion.
The second opinion presented the same possibilities for the
cause of the infection; however, I was given the option of first
trying a more conservative treatment - Perio Scale/Root Plane.
After the treatment, the hygienist injected the antibiotic minocycline into my gum.  I was told to take the rest of the
amoxicillin I was prescribed by the original dentist.  I had
already been taking it for two weeks and had two more days supply. I am scheduled to return January 13, 2006 to check the
results of the treatment.  Should I be taking amoxicillin along
with the minocycline injected into my gum, and how long would
the injected antibiotic be effective? Also, what do you think about the use of this particular drug in this situation and what do you think of the Perio Scale/Root Plane as a preliminary treatment for a gum infection of my description? Also I wasn't given any instruction about the drug minocycline.
Thank You for any answers you are able to give to my questions.

I think that the conservative treatment has validity. It is impossible to diagnosis the problem without the necessary diagnostic tools(ie. exam and x-rays.} The antibiotic that is injected is a tetracyline which has proven to be effective in certain situations for pocket reduction.I don't think you need to take any more systemic antibiotics. It is important that the problem be monitored closely, the cuspids are very important teeth.
