Depends on the extent of bone loss in your jaw. If it is bured in the jaw, they would have to create a flap to get access to the root tip. They may remove a small portion of the jaw (approximately 1-2mm) and attempt to remove the root tip that way. They may also just split the tooth into two pieces and remove it one by one and preserve the jaw. Either way, once removed, the jaw will heal and fill in the extraction socket. It just depends on how much tooth they have access to in order to remove it.
i have already stated a desire to be under general anesthesia. one thing i am concerned about is i have two molars that decayed and broke off down past the gum line. how will they remove those?
I think you meant to post in the general forum. This is the "Ask the expert" forum in which you ask a dentist about a particular issue.
I can't speak from personal experience about having full mouth extractions but I have done a few of them. Unfortunately the experience can vary depending on how the procedure is done and how complicated the extractions are.
Are you undergoing these extractions under sedation or with just local anesthetic? The difficulty of the extractions are also a concern. If they are difficult, it can increase the recovery time and would probably result in a little more discomfort while you're healing up. Also, during the extractions, although you won't feel any pain, you will probably feel a bit of pressure and pushing/tugging while they're working. If you're sedated, you may not remember that.
