fluoride in dental white fillings

by Dora433, Apr 27, 2008 03:29PM
It seems that all white composite resins contains fluoride either added by manufacturer or is included in the matrix of the glass silicate or resin. I have similar experience. WHat people are reporting is some chronic reaction to the fluoride directly released in your mouth.
But fillings did not use to have this problem, I just wonder if there is something out there with no fluoride at all. My remedy has been removing teeth, I have other fillings done 12 years ago and did not have the problem.

This discussion is related to Can composite resin cause ms with reflux type symptoms?.

Dora,
Most composites fillings do not contain fluoride.  And the ones that do are in a group called glass ionomers, which are only used in specific areas, or in patients with dry mouth or rampant decay.   This fluoride release has been shown to markedly reduce the chance of decay returning in these high risk areas.

Andy,
Notice the expert they mention talks about an allergy to fluoride, not that fluoride itself is dangerous.  Every substance causes an allergic reaction in a small subset of people.
This is a group that uses scare tactics to further their agenda by targetting the uneducated.  There was a study done a few years ago to see how well these scare tactics work.  A group decided to get petitions for the ban of the "most dangerous chemical in america", dihydrogen oxide.  They manage to get thousands to sign the petition to remove it.  Dihydrogen Oxide is the chemical name for pure water.
