gum bleeding

May i know the reason why does my gum bleeds? it usually happen, could it be seroius?

i was just wondering i have a 2 year old boy
and he was sick there for a week with coldsores int he back of his throat but also i noticed that he gums bleed at least 3 times a day and it looks like hes 2 front teeth that are bleeding ...
if anyone can help
