Sometimes the gums do recede after treatment because the gums were higher up on the teeth due to the inflammation and infection.  Once the infection is resolved, the gums will stop being swollen and shrink away.  I know it sounds like a negative thing but in reality, your gums are much healthier now even if they don't look like it.  I would go back to your periodontist to let them know and have them explain it to you.  They may also be able to graft the gums back up or some other treatment.  I'm not a periodontist though so I don't know whats possible or not possible in your particular case but it never hurts to find out more.
