healing tooth socket

hi, i am so confused and curious, how will i know if the socket where the tooth was extracted from is healing? what is the white 'thing' in it?

i have recentally had all my teeth removed and in my experance you will be able to tell if it is not healing it will hurt worse than before i was told that the white stuff is tissue that grows over the blood clot so as long as you have the white stuff and the pain isnt very bad i think you are fine
