inner lip lesions

I've been using a Thornton Device for a few months.  After about two weeks of wearing it the inside of both lips developed little bumps at about the height of the device .  My dentist reduced the height and polished both parts of the device but the bumps haven't gone away.  They are very annoying and now I bite them constantly.  What could be the cause of the bumps?  More importantly what might help to get rid of them without giving up the device?

It may take a few weeks for it to reduce the bumps due to the friction of the TAP device.  If it doesn't go away on its own, you could have the dentist remove it with a surgical laser.
