is bad breath caused from faulty crowns contagious?

Hi,

My boyfriend had plastic crowns put in a few months ago, and has recently been dealing with some bad breath that may or may not be caused by them. A week ago we kissed before he brushed his teeth and now a week later I have a bad taste in my mouth almost all the time and especially after eating. On the other hand I also have had some indigestion issues and it may be related to that. If I did catch something from him, what can I do about it?

Thanks,

Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,
Bad breath can't be "caught" from another.  It's more likely that your indigestion problems are giving you the bad taste in your mouth.

Your BF should do something about his, though.  He should have the crowns checked to be sure there isn't decay forming below them which can cause his halitosis.  He also needs to be sure he is flossing every day around them.  Particles of food and plaque that can form more easily on crowns can give off a really bad odor if not removed on a daily basis.  Cleaning between the teeth is as important as proper twice daily brushing.

Halitosis and dental disease can not be transmitted from one person to another unless poor oral hygiene is also a factor.

Hopes this helps!
My best to you,
Gellia
