lump on gum after extraction

my daughter had several teeth extracted last week, now she has a hard white lump on the side of her gums which feels hard, what is it, and what should I do?

Is the hard white bump in the extraction area?  Is it swollen and puffy or does it seem like a small piece which is sharp?  Any pain?  It could be extra bone that may be protruding out or it may be a bony spicule in which small bits of bone which are left in the socket are making their way out.
