Not sure I posted on correct board.
I am 57. Weigh 110 lbs.I have gum problems and an abcess. My hsuband is my dentist but he has not done dental work on my for several years. I filed for divorce 2 1/2 years ago due to domestic abuse/violence from him.
Today he prescribed Erythrocin 250 mg for an abcess. He told me to take 8 (eight) pill now and then 2 pills every 6 hours after that. That is 3 1/2 g in one day! Isn't 8 pills too much to take at the same time? I had him write it out for me to make sure I understood. I am afraid of taking so much at one time. Is this a normal dose?

Seeing a periodontist is advised.

That is called a loading dose, and it so that it brings up the A/B to a therapuetic level in your blood stream. Erythro would not be my first choice but it would work probably.. Sounds though, like you should find yourself a new dentist.
