metal crown w/porcelain on the outside of tooth

by dancer64, Sep 25, 2008 04:51PM
5 yrs ago my dentist put a metal crown on the back molar, but put a porcelain lining on the outside of the tooth.  It recently chipped, and my new dentist did not understand why the dentist did not use an all metal crown as the metal could not be seen on a back molar.  Can you think of any reason?

The choice of porcelain fused to metal or full metal crown depends on patient's demand.
