metal or porcelin crowns?

After having to deal with months of problems with a crown on #19 molar I am having it popped off and redone by a different dentist.  my question is, what type of crown is better?  The one I have is porcelin fused to a base metal--pimarily nickel.  the trouble i have with it is that I have a metallic taste on it--like having a piece of aluminun in my mouth, and I feel a popping sensation under the crown when I eat or drink anything cold.

What type of metal should I have fused to the porcelin this time?  I have heard that all porcelin crowns aren't as sturdy, and I have other crowns with metal in them, so I know I am not allergic to metal or anything, but I need to find something that I can't  taste and will fit properly.  Thanks

crowned teeth is no so strong as a regular one, so should be used carefully.
So non-metalic one seems to be good, because metal can cause galvanic issue causing electric current and releasing metal vapor harmfully.

there is also a great tooth colored crown called a cerec crown.(cerec is the machine that designs it i think the crown is called procera but i cant remember right now!)  the treatment is actually done all in one visit, prepping and seating as it is made in the dental office.  its a great material because it wears close to your own tooth structure.  all porc. crowns can chip, even though i know many that have had no problems.  you should look at your diet, do you chew ice? do you like to eat hard crunchy foods?  nickel can be bothersome to some, even causing discomfort to those with nickel allergies.  i think if you had problems with a popping sensation it sounds like it wasnt seated properly, and i dont think that is more than an error on the dds part (my little ol opinion).  look at all your options as in how often would you have to replace it?  is esthetics important to you? what is likely to reduce sensitivity.
