nervous about injections

I have a huge cavity in the middle of my top 2 front teeth. It doesnt hurt one bit but it looks very bad, So I have been to my regular dentist and she said she thought it needed a root canal which she doesnt do. I found another dentist and went in for an evaluation. He took xrays and agreed it could possibly need a root canal but if it wasnt hurting he would go in and try to pulp cap it but if he could he would go ahead with the root canal. I am not so much worried about the work he is going to do but with the injection. I have had a ton of filling and a root canal before in the past but it was always on my back molors. I have never had a procedure on my front teeth so I dont know what to expect with the injection. I was reading that the front teeth injections are sometimes harder and more painful. Would a infiltration injection be ok for this procedure and place?  I am honestly about to back out of it and just deal with the cavity because of the anxiety this is causeing. I have suffered from panic attacks in the past and this doesnt help. Any advice?

I figured I should add that it is not only the pain of the injection that scares me, in fact that is the least of my worries as they have laughing gas but it mostly the the numbness that scares me. It sends me into panic . How numb can I expect it to be and how long will it last?

What the dentist should do is apply a special numbing cream on a swab which he places onto your gum where the actual injection will happen.   This cream numbs the area, sometimes to the point where you hardly feel the injection at all.  Of course everyone is different and this isn't always the case for everybody.   I've had work done on my front teeth and even though the injection wasn't pleasant, it was certainly bearable.   All I did was close my eyes and kept making myself think it was just a mosquito bite!   You have to remember that if you do feel the stinging it only lasts for a few seconds before the medicine starts to do its thing and numb you.   The numbness usually wears off within 3-4 hours tops.   Good luck with it all.
