Hi,
The CAT scan is only a diagnostic instrument.  A neurologist is the one that should be consulted if it's a nerve problem.

That's what it sounds like IMO.  The nerve has caused your lips and teeth to go numb.
I can't tell you what a neurologist may advise you, but that would be the next step if your bite is correct.

Good luck.  Numbness is a tricky thing.
My best to you,
Gellia

P.S.  At this stage, I agree with scottma.  You should consult a neurologist.

Hi again,
If a CAT scan showed nothing, can you have your dentist check your bite over the filling?  If it is off, it could have made your jaw sore and pull on the periodontal ligament.  It could put pressure on the nerve.  I know that's a stretch, but it's the only thing I can think of off hand.

Constant pressure from a tooth root on the nerve can deaden it to sensation. Relieve the pressure, and the nerve should be fine.  An off bite would put pressure where you may not want it.

I'm sorry I can't be of any real help on this.  Please come back and let us know how you are and what you find out.

GOOD LUCK and
My very best to you,
Gellia

Hi,
It's possible that the novocain was injected into the lingual nerve.  This is a nerve block.  Normally it lasts for a few hours and numbs to the center of the lip, gums and teeth on the lower jaw.  It's not unheard of that it lasts alot longer.  Do you have any sensation at all?  Is there tingling or itching?  If you lightly draw a finger across the skin can you feel anything?
If so, the feeling will come back slowly.  If not, there is still a very good chance the feeling will come back but it can take quite some time, as your dentist has said.

Because it is considered a neurological (with the facial nerves) problem, a neurologist is frequently consulted.

Hope this helps.
Best to you,
Gellia
