oral herpes

by reezereeze, Dec 23, 2005 12:00AM
i keep getting one small whitish bump/blister (small like the the large head of a pin) on the tip of my tongue.  I've gotten three in the past 2 months, one about every 2 - 3 weeks.  The first was on the left tip on the top part of the tongue.  the second was on the right tip on the top part of the tongue.  This latest one was on the left tip, near but on the bottom side of the tongue.  When i get one it hurts, but only to the touch, like when my tongue touches my teeth, but it doesn't generally hurt or burn.

The pain usually lasts for the first two days, the bump dissapears within 5 days or so.  so the entire thing lasts about 5 days.

Could this be recurrant interoral herpes?

the doctors i've seen have gave me different opinions:

1st Bump   GP - looked at it for two seconds and said i have hepres.
A different GP AND an Oral Surgeon (DDS) saw the same bump two days after the first GP and said it looked bacterial (they also checked my lymph glands in my neck, none were swollen).

2nd bump, i went to STD clinic, the doc said that in his 30 yrs, he never seen herpes on tongue.  He examined it and said, it is probably just inflammed for some reason (smoking, etc).  he SAID it would be a CLEAR, not whitish blister if it is herpes.

3rd bump went back to the GP from the 1st bump who said it was bacterial, he said that since the pain is gone, he can't do blood test.  he said it could be a canker sore.

He said next time, when it appears i should get Igm blood test and that will tell him if it is herpes.

What do you think?

I do not think it is a herpetic lesion. Considering that there is a difference of opinion I would suggest you seek out an oral pathologist. You can locate  one of these pros either at a dental school or a teaching hospital.
