oral menolanoma in children

I took my daughter to the dentist today and after examining her mouth said she needed referring to a specialist in our nearby hospital. After asking her several times why, she said that she had a mole in her mouth which could be serious and needed a specialist opinion. When i got home and looked on the internet i saw menolanoma which she mentioned several times but i was not familiar with the term. Now that i am im very confused and a bit scared. She said the referrall would take about 2 weeks. This sounds a long time espiecally as my daughter is only 9 and i have a lot of questions. If anyone could shed some light on this i would be very gratefull x

Please do as scottma advised.  Melanoma is very rare in children, and as he said, can be very fast growing.  An oral surgeon is your best friend.  He can check it out and determine if it is or is not a melanoma.
Try not to read too much information on the internet as most is geared toward adults, but it is VERY important that you seek GOOD medical advice.
Best to you and your daughter,
Gellia

Melanoma is extremely rare occuring in children. Melanoma tends to be growing fast, irregular border, indurated consistency, very dark shade. Seeing an oral surgeon is advised.
