oral sedation

What medication is used in oral sedation?  It says I will be given a pill 1 hour prior to the visit and 1 or more when I arrive.

It really depends on the dentist, there are a wide variety of oral sedation medications.  Typically they use 1-2 benzodiazepines.  The most widely used are:
Triazolam  (Halcion)
Midazolam (Versed)
Diazepam (Valium)
