osteomyelitis,related to silver points

osteomyelitis,related to silver points

In 2005 I was told I had silver points (post) and they were leaking and needed to be removed.  I took the x-ray of the took to my old stomping grounds to let my "old" dentist remove the silver tips.  He looked at the x-ray and said they were not leaking.  His analagy was don't fix something that is not broke. He said the silver tips were not leaking. Is the standard of care to remove silver tips regardless?  Beliving in his recommendation he did not remove them.  Shortly after I went to my "Old" dentist with pain in this tooth.  No relizing it was the silver point tooth.  As it turned out he left the silver points and crowned the tooth, 6/2005,  Over the past three weeks I have been tired and sick.  One friday my tooth started to throb. More then I could stand.  Two days of rocking and waiting to take take the next vicodin.  (In 4 hr. cycles.)  My "Old" dentist pulled the tooth with the silver tips and told me I have osteomylatis, showing me bone damage and putting me on antibiotics with even more pain killers.  Who should I see to make sure this is the correct corse of action and I'm felling very sick to my stomach along with soreness in the front of my neck.  Could my bone disease have anything to do with it?
Thank you,
Convoyhank

The diagnosis of osteomyelitis is a severe one with definite symptoms. You might have a residual infection from the old rct with the silver points. I would have this diagnosis checked by an oral surgeon because the treatment is aggressive and immediate.

The dentist that did the work is and oral surgeon.  I have been put on Ciprofloxacin 500 mg 2 times a day and Oxycodone for pain.  Is this the proper treatment? This morning I called him to explain that I am sick to my stomach much of the time and the pain is from where my 31 tooth was up to the front of my ear.  Along with the top and bottom front teeth. The left side of my throat is sore with some discomfront in swallowing.  He is calling in a prescription for Flagel,  I'm thinking I need to get another opinion?  I'm a diabetic, my general MD saw me yesterday and said we would do bood test in a couple weeks and increased my insulin.  It was very high and now seems to have come down this morning.  I had readings in the 200's to 300's with very little food, since I'm not hungry at all. Does the infected bone regenerate?  My dentist only x rayed the 31 tooth before extracting, could the bone infection have spread to my front teeth?  I'm very worried and appreciate any comments.  I do not intend to file any lawsuit, I have known this dentist and been with him since 1981. We have been to his home and I consider him  a personal friend.  I drive 70 miles each way to keep him as my dentist.  I just think this was a bad call and want to make sure its not being downplayed.  I want to do everything in my power to make sure I'm getting the proper treatment.  Thank you.
