Last of June I went to the dentist with pain in lower back molar and lower right k9. She said I had infection I took antibotics for 2 weeks. Still pain mostly in the k9. Then she said the pain was caused by a turous (sp) caused by a tooth pulled 25 years ago or I needed a root canal. I have a crown on the back tooth and the k9 Went to another doc he did a root canal July 18 going thru the crown, I have had pain in tooth since then, last week he made a horizonal insision in the gum to ck toth root area to make sure he had not punctured by drilling as he missed the canal the first time, & went into another chanal. I am weary of the pain. He wants to go back in & drill down the canal again. He is confused he doesn't know what is causing the pain. He also said the turous could be causing the pain. Needless to say the whole side of the lower area is now sore. The tooth hurts when I press on it or tap on it at the top and on the backside. The turous is just below that tooth and extends back to the lower molar. When I see him on Thurs he will take the stiches out and wants to drill into the canal again. I hurt and don't want him to touch it. He wants to take out the turos also. I want to go to a endodontist or an oral surgeon if the turos is the problem. I appreciate any comment Thanks
did a general dds do all this? id suggest seeing an endodontist to check the tooth and give you his opinion. i dont see why he wants to go back into the gums a second time. did the dentist use the term apicoectomy? or retrofill? get a second opinion from a specialist.
i am in fla----
If i were you, I'd see another dentist for an opinion.-- preferably someone you are referred to by someone you trust. your other option is to get an opinion from a root canal specialist (endodontist). Again, I would see someone you are referred to by a friend-- not your current dentist. I would NOT, at this point, allow your current dentist to do any more work on you until you have this problem under control. The whole situationdoes not sound right to me. A torus is not the cause of your pain in my opinion. Again, they are benign. It sounds to me like you may have a cracked tooth. If this is suspected, I would remove the crown so I can at least see what I'm dealing with.
Thank you Dr.Mike, I live in Reno NV I went to the endodonist, Dr Jones yesterday. He took an digital exray. He said the root canal was good. He said sometimes it took more time to heal around the volcunized area? I thought it meant around tissue outside of the root canal. He said he could retreat it or repair it. He did say the tooth looked healthy and would not extract it. He also told me to wear my night guard, as I had told him I had not been wearing it because of the pain in my mouth. He thought I might be grinding my teeth in this area . The cost for his work would be $900 +. I have no insurance and have already paid $400 for the root canal. I am on a limited income (I am 74) I can't afford that. I just want to keep the teeth I have for the next 10 years or so, if I live that long
Sooo I went back to my dentist Dr Chueng today to have the stitches removed from the surgery he did last week, as I mentioned before. I told him of my second opinion, he was ok with it. He said he would feel better if the endodonist had took out the temp and looked at what he had done to validate his work. I told him my money situation and he said he would not charge me for any additional retreatment. But he wanted me to come back in 2 weeks to give my mouth a chance to heal from the incision, because I told him all my teeth were aching at this point even the places I have no teeth. I will suggest to him about taking the crown off and looking at the tooth. I did say that to him last week but he said that was quite a procedure. I will go back to him in two weeks and let my mouth heal. Thanks again
Here I am again, I waited the 2 weeks went back to doc and he retreated the root canal on Thurs 9/7 His assistant put temp putty stuff in hole. I am still having the same pain around the hole area and top of the tooth. I have been going through this for 2 months. I now wonder what could be going on under the crown. But if the root is gone why would the tooth be hurting. It hurts when I apply pressure with my tongue to the inside, top and outside of the tooth. Also when I hold the tooth between my thumb and index finger. It has befuddled the doc as well. My next move is to have him remove the crown. I hate to have the tooth pulled as this would leave me with only 2 teeth to hold a bridge. Any suggestions Thanks Nettie
After another sleepness night it is 5 am and I have been up since 3 am and after 2 months of this stress, I have decided to have the tooth extracted. In the future if I am without some teeth or need dental extractions I will look into implants. I am 74 and am tired of the pain and frustration. Thanks for listening Nettie
Pull the TOOTH there's is no good way to fix a bad root canal. The problem can surface many years in the future. Find a good biological dentist in the future. Listen to your body. Antibiotics normally will not work because the root is gone and no blood supply to the inner tooth. Many dentists and the ADA will say I am crazy. Search the internet and you'll find many sad stories about root canals. The can cavatate (not sure of the spelling) and seed your body with infection. You are lucky the pain is in the tooth. Because root canals can refer pain to other areas, I know this from my own personal experience; I am presently having all root canals removed.
just read this post. I posted oon 9/11 ongoing pain after crown/root canal/apeo. This all sounds somewhat like me. Catch 22 Situation. Let us know what your outcome is. Iv'e been reading about atypical odontalgia. I have also been finding out that alot of people have unresolved (nerve) pain after a dental procedure and root canals. Unless I get a positive answer I would NOT have a tooth pulled. A nighmare come true is to have the same pain and one less tooth. I believe all my dentist had good intentions. My endo charged me $1500.00 for the root canal and apeo, any follow up visits were no charge. Also the Endo advised me to call anytime if I was having problems. A good Doc. Astro, Im curious what is the cost of having a tooth redone?
Lots of luck Nettie, and please keep us posted.
