pain and wiggly tooth after root canal

by pain and wiggly tooth after rooth canal, Nov 16, 2005 12:00AM
I am 43. Last Dec.I had an abscess tooth on upper molar3rd from back on left. He putme onantib and a week later he opened it up and put something in and closed it up...from then I started to get pus building up above that tooth area.  I ended up poking it with a pin to get pus to come out.  A few weeks later he started the rt canal. It stunk. During the proc., I had what's called an irrigation accident...It felt like the bleach solution went up into my sinus.  They stopped what they were doing and had me come back a second time to finish it up.  I was petrified after that.  I continued to have pain in that tooth. It feels wiggly from side to side. He kept thinking it was my bite and kept grinding it down but didn't help.  He referred me to his friend who was an endodontist.  That guy said that there was no perforation and said root canal looked good but could be extra canal.  Then my general dentist said, let me get that bugger out and I went back to him and redid root canal but still had the same pain.  It seems to be worse when I am pms and during the night when I am lying down..some days are better than others..it's more of a wiggly tooth with pain from side to side and then there is pain from within. I finally went to another endodontist who did an xray and said that the root canal that my dentist did was excellent.  He thought I had a cracked tooth and put a brace on it and said to see if it helps after a week.  It's been over a week and it's still the same. Wants to do a retreatment. Anything to do w/periodontal ligamt? Do I need apicoetomy? Where to go from here?

I am concerned with the mobility of the tooth. If the tooth is fractured, how badly, and can the tooth be restored after the RCT. Also if the tooth is fractured what would be the purpose of retreating the RCT. I think it is imperative that the cause of the mobility is determined. I am much more conservative about having apicos done. The overall sucess rate is not within my liking. I would much prefer to have the RCT retreated if that is the problem and if the tooth can be restored.
