pain only after dental work

pain only after dental work

I never have a problem with my teeth hurting me until I have dental work done. I have had 3 fillings in the past 5 years and it always involves delayed healing. For 3 to 4 weeks after filling is done, I have severe pain due to toothaches and earaches. It was fustrating that it took so long but my dentist had no explanation but to tell me to take OTC till the pain goes away.

Recently I had 3 fillings done at one time and the pain is unbearable. I am able to manage it during the day with taking 4 ibuprofen 4 times a day but at night it's not manageable. I am up 2 or 3 times a night being woke up by throbbing and aching in my mouth. Also if I don't catch the oncoming pain soon enough I end up having a severe earache. These symptoms have been going on for 21 days. I went back to the dentist and was also sent to a entodonist who both said xrays and tests don't reveal anything wrong. Entodonist is referring me to a neurologist due to she is thinking I might have trigeminal neuralgia but she isn't sure due to I have no symptoms for several years. The sympoms only occur when I have dental work done. HELP!!!

It sounds like you have some extremely sensitive nerves.  Sorry about that.  I also have a patient who experiences alot of pain and soreness after dental treatment almost no matter how big or small the procedure.  I do prescribe some strong pain meds for her to cope with the pain and it seems to work for her.  From her description, it doesn't really affect her in a negative way either such as bad side effects though.
