pain under crown

I had a crown put recently and I didn't feel any pain but I couldn't chew on that side. I went back to the dentist and he fixed the bite. It is better now but I started to feel pain. The dentist told me that the tooth was pretty bad and he was afraid that I may need a rooth canal on it. Do you think that the nerve is damaged and I will need a rooth canal? How is this done when the crown is already placed?

Occlusal interference may generate pulpitis like symptom. if your dentist can not adjust the bite optimally, you may need to see an occlusionist or prosthodontist.

They can sometimes remove the crown, sometimes they can go through it, but this usually results in cracking of the crown and you will have to get a new one.  See if your dentist can correct the bite again, sometimes it can take more than one adjustment.  When your dentist says the tooth is in "bad shape" also ask him if it is able to support a crown for very long.
