pain with temporary dental crowns

pain with temporary dental crowns

I have recently had ALL of my teeth crowned dueto excessive grinding from TMJ.  My dentist put my temporary crowns on about 2 months ago, and ever since that time, I have had extreme pain w/ almost every tooth in my mouth.  The dentist keeps adjusting my crowns (drilling) and/or adjusting my bite guard, but nothing seems to help.  It feels like nerve pain, but is a "9" on a scale of "1 to 10" (and I have had children w/out an epidural,so I'm really not a complainer regarding pain).  Also, I have not been able to chew anything substantial, and have had to be on a soft diet for the past 2 months.  I take 800 mg of Ibuprofen around the clock, and actually wake up in the middle of the night, with extreme pain, when the medicine has worn off.  Have you ever heard of such excessive pain from temporary crowns?  Should I go to another dentist and get a second opinion?  I have, thus far, spent $33,000 out-of-pocket w/ this dentist and have no idea what to do.  I have no  more money to spend on this.  Do you have any ideas for me?

I do not believe you should be experiencing this much discomfort so my only advice would be to seek another opinion.

why have you been in temporaries for so long? The pain you describe is not normal in my opinion. I would see a prosthodontist (crown and bridge/bite rehabilitation specialist) not affiliated with your current dentist  for an opinion as why you are in so much pain as well as the resorative direction of your case.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble.  Friday (5/25/7), I had 20 of my teeth prepared for veneers and my temporaries are a bit sensitive to hot/cold but no real pain to speak of.  I have to also  watch what I eat.  I had three of them fall off the first night, but no problems since.  I can't imagine why you are still in temporaries?  I will have my permanent veneers in three weeks.  I have had both of my jaw joints replaced for TMJ and also grind my teeth.
