pockets

when i went to the dentist a few weeks ago for a new visit. i had neglected  my gums and teeth  for years. they said my measurement of gums was 4 or 5. what does that mean? I have since had root planing and scaling all over my mouth and a full set of porcelian crowns. i have been using peridex, the pills and a mouth rinse. do u think with me continuing with everything will help and not make my gums worse. thank you.

The measurment as described is probably  the pocket depth. 3mm is ideal. 4mm is acceptable. 5mm is little bit of periodontitis. The pocket depth generally will reduce after a comprehensive gum treatment.I generally don't recommend mouth rinse, except after surgical procedure or soft tissue infection is present.
