porcelain crown shaved to metal underlay

porcelain crown shaved to metal underlay

I just received a porcelain over metal crown.  The dentist shaved it down to the metal in order to fit the bite properly. It now looks like I have a filling instead of the nice white porcelain crown i was expecting. Is this acceptable and does it impact the crowns life?   Thanks

This usually weakens the rest of the porcelain on the crown. It sounds like there was not enough tooth structure reduced to make room for the thickness of both metal and porcelain.

Hi.  Maybe someone here can help me.  I had 3 crown preps done on Monday, the 3rd.  They were right next to each other and the the dentist made 1 temp crown to cover the 3 teeth.  They used the color paper to check my bite and it was fine.  However, its been 3 days, and it doesn't feel right.  Will the permanents feel better?  Its not paid, just when I put pressure against it or when I drink a sip of liquid (not cold or hot), I feel pressure--almost like a feeling that the tooth or teeth inside the crown is bending. 2 of them have had root canal already.  My permanent crown is scheduled for Apr. 21.  What can I do to make sure the Dentist fixes the feeling---or will the weird feeling go away??
