post root canal pain

post root canal pain

6 months ago I had 2 root canals and still have pain.  I have a dull ache in both and sensitivity to pressure on the sides of the treated teeth.  I just had a re-treatment(drilling into the bottom of the root to take out the infection) of a different root canal treated tooth that had a new infection(next to the sensitive/root canal treated tooth most recently done) by an endontist and he didn't see any infection with the two teeth my dentist performed the root canals on, yet I still have alot of sensitivity and pain.  I have had my bite adjusted twice because the two teeth are located one on top of the other and it seemed to alleviate some of the pain temporarily but now it is back just like before.  Any suggestions?

If the canals are optimally obturated and there is no radiographic evidence of periapical pathology, the source of pain is probably from occlusal interference, which is further evidenced by temporary relief of occlusal adjustment. Particularly, if the pain can be provoked by clenching on a piece of cotton roll.Going back to your dentist to have more occlusal adjustment is advised. If the occlusal adjustment is only performed on the offending teeth, occlusion may not remain stable long-term. Full mouth equilibration is probably needed.
