post root canals

I have a old filling removed about 6 months ago that i had for some 30 years and was provided an onlay. several weeks later the tooth became painful and I subsequently had a root canal. The endo drilled through the onlay, performed the operation and my regular dentist treated the tooth and filled the gap. ( not a crown, just filled the hole created on the onlay by the endo ).

Now this tooth is still  slightly sensitive , particular biting down ( not hot or cold ), but not painful at all - simply feels, humm, odd. I mentioned this to the dentist, who xrayed the tooth, said it was fine and that if the onlay didnt work & that the root canal still causes some form of discomfort, then in effect they have done all they can do in dentistry. Ultimate i sense this is extraction and perhaps an implant on the horizon.

Is this right ? I have had other root canals without an issue, some with with crowns, others with onlays - its just this tooth seems to be fighting me somewhat.

I had a root canal and crown on a molar several years back because my tooth was cracked and it was sensitive to biting for a good 6 months...  I am having the same issue as you on another tooth right now - pain after an onlay.  It's awful!!
