question about dry socket

by inmuchpain, Apr 23, 2007 12:00AM
I currently have dry socket on my two lower extrations.  Today i just had my packings removed(which i have had my sockets packed every day for 7 days) and now I am kinda scared to eat.  Wont food get in there if the hole is as big as those strips of gauze?  And now that I am not having much pain will dry socket come back if im not careful?  Thanks for any advice.

The dry sockets will not return. Secondly, use a water pik or a similar device to keep the sockets clean.

The gauze is actually filling the hole, so you probably won't get much in there. I had the same situation, and my surgeon changed the gauze every other day for a week. The worst part was the antibiotic that the gauze is soaked in - tastes awful!

I mostly ate things that required minimal chewing (scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc.). Luckily, they heal fast, so hopefully you will feel better and be back to eating real food soon!
