radiation and tooth removal

radiation and tooth removal

25 yrs ago I had a tumor removed from my parodit gland.  I now have a tooth that needs to be removed from my lower back tooth.  My oral surgen does not want to pull the tooth.  My radiaoligist says it's ok.  I can not do the hypo chamber because I have CML. What do you suggest?

Ultimately your oral surgeon is legally going to be responsible for whatever happens to you if he removes the tooth.  The radiologist can say its fine but if there's any complications, the oral surgeon will be liable since he's the one who did the treatment.

Is there a reason why he doesn't want to remove the tooth?  Is he afraid that due to the radiation, the jaw bone may be dead and its possible that after he removes the tooth, the area may not heal and develop an infection?   Your oral surgeon should get the radiation records and see at what angle and dosage the radiation was given.  Sometimes with the parotid gland, the lower jaw may not be affected although since it was 25 yrs ago, the recording keeping may not be as good.
