redoing the root canal

redoing the root canal

I had 3 filling done last year with one of them i was having pain so when i visited back they suggested me for a root canal, and my root canal was done in the same place where i got my filling done but a different doctor and she is not specialist i suppose.  i had my root canal done in november 2007 for the tooth no. 19 and she told me there is no necessary for the crown. since then i was having pain i visited her twice because of the pain she checked and said every thing looks good and gave me some medication. but it is of no use i still have a mild pain and i am not comfartable while chewing and sensitivity to the cold.  yesterday i went to the specialist he told me that there is a infection down in the root and root canal is to be redone, but it seems insurance only covers root canal treatment for every 2 years so i can't get it done with the specialist. so i went back to my dentist with whom i got my rootcanal done and asked her she said it look good but as i am complaning of the pain she can redo rootcanal with no charge and she told me as she doesn't have any appointments in may she told me to come back in june, as i don't trust her any more please help i don't want to get my root canal done with her again.  i wanted to get it done with specialist. can i talk to my insurance?? can i talk to my dentist and ask her to pay for my specialist ?

I would definitely trust the opinion of the specialist, was it an endodontist?  Sometimes root canals do need to be redone, insurance has so many loopholes it surprises me that they will even cover a second root canal!  If there is infection in the canal still you may need an antibiotic.  You should ask the specialist about that because most of the time infection is what causes the pain.  You can try to appeal to the insurance company but that will probably take longer than waiting for your appointment for the retreat w/ your DDS in june.  Your DDS won't agree to pay for your root canal, they probably had you sign an "informed consent" form stating that you understand that your treatment may not work, most reputable offices do this, in most states it is required by law and protects your DDS from malpractice.  You could consider extracting the tooth, it would be much cheaper but you would need longterm tooth replacement.  Sorry I am not more positive, I feel your financial pain, I just spent $4000 for an implant and crown.

yes the specialist was a endodontist,  even i could see dark thing at the root in his x-ray, where as in the x-ray at my dentist  i couldn't see that, may be it is not such a good equipment
